RECIPES & MEMORIES
A Letter From the Author
My love for cooking started young — at 13, I was in our family kitchen, whipping up mee goreng for neighbours, watching them enjoy my food and the conversations that followed. Food nurtures community and it’s that profound joy in bringing people together around a table that continues to drive me today.
Since then, it’s been an incredible journey. From collecting recipes and learning from others, to finding inspiration in my travels - each experience has shaped my culinary path. My media stint as a radio announcer prepared me for TV cooking shows, but my big break came with a cooking contest for Her World, leading to a career in food styling, recipe creation, and, of course, opening restaurants Chat Masala and Chat Masala Too.
Having already published 4 cookbooks (“Indian Food Today”, “Feast of Flavours from the Indian Kitchen”, “Indian” and “Step by Step Cooking Indian”), My Long Table – Recipes & Memories is my most personal cookbook to date. It’s a legacy of over 130 recipes and my stories through food. I hope you’ll enjoy cooking from it as much as I loved writing it.
Happy Cooking,
Dhershini Govin Winodan
